Senior Application Engineer (Node.js) at Float

Our growing team of twenty-four are made up of Engineers, Product Managers, Marketing and Customer Success folks in more than eight countries.

About the Role

We're seeking a Node.js expert to join our highly-skilled engineering team of 12 to scale and maintain our industry-leading SaaS product. Your primary responsibility will be implementing technical strategy while working on our microservices-based server-side applications. This includes supporting our family of dedicated integrations and web and mobile applications.

With a growing audience of more than 3,500 businesses logging in each day to Float, your role will have a massive influence on team productivity across the world.

You'll work alongside a skilled team of Senior Engineers across five countries, participating in system design, architecture, maintenance, and refactoring decisions. You'll be working on new features and integrations and be active in code reviews and coordinating engineering efforts across teams and products.

As a fully remote team, we're looking for hands-on, senior-level candidates whose primary focus and love is the work: you’ll lead by example and set the bar for quality. There are growth opportunities along both Principal and Manager paths in our engineering department.


We’re looking for someone with proven leadership experience in a senior technical role, preferably for an SMB or enterprise-grade SaaS. You'll be able to demonstrate successful past projects for professional, public-facing, large-scale web applications.

The role will require:
  • Node.js:
    - Expert Node.js proficiency in a production environment
    - Proficiency in developing REST APIs
    - Experience developing integrations with third-party APIs
  • Databases:
    - Expert proficiency with relational databases (MySQL) and optimizing SQL queries
    - Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis)
  • Distributed systems:
    - Extensive experience with microservices-based architecture in production
    - Proficiency with message queueing systems (any one of RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub, Kafka)
    - Experience developing data processing pipelines is a bonus (Dataflow, BigQuery, Cloud PubSub, PubSub Lite)
  • DevOps (bonus):
    - Experience with software containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes) and serverless computing
    - Experience with cloud computing vendors (GCP, AWS)
    - Experience with CircleCI, Jenkins or similar CI/CD applications


The salary range for this role is US $110-$130K.
